I am very glad we have PEN America, a nonprofit organization that defends the free expression of speech through books in schools.
Banning books in schools is a growing movement that threatens students’ First Amendment rights and access to diverse literature.
Pen America report that there were 2,532 instances of individual books being banned in the 2021-22 school year, affecting 1,648 unique book titles.
Many of these books address LGBTQ themes, issues of race, and racism.
Banning books in schools is a harmful, exclusionary practice that deprives students of the opportunity to learn from different perspectives, develop critical thinking skills, and explore their own identities and values.
What is next from people like the Liberty moms? Telling America what they can eat or drink.
Are we going forward or backward in our thinking and growing better as human beings?
