Philly won three major categories of the James Beard Awards for 2024 and last year’s chef awards.
Chutatip “Nok” Suntaranon of Kalaya took home the award in the Best Chef, in the Mid-Atlantic category, beating out a stellar field that included several other Philly-area chefs. Here are some of the Chefs in the Philadelphia area who received awards in the past two years.
1- 2023 James Beard Awards: In the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic category, Chutatip “Nok” Suntaranon of Kalaya won the award.

2- 2023 James Beard Awards: Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality also received an award for Outstanding Restaurant. Ellen Yin is owner of Fork Restaurant, the acclaimed New American Bistro in Old City, Philadelphia.

3- Chef of the Year in 2020: Chef Omar Tate is one of the award winners of Esquire’s. He is creating a community center that will include a supper club, grocery shop, meat market, and café library and he is the owner of Honeysuckle restaurant with his wife.

4- 2024 James Beard Foundation Tasting: Philly is scheduled for March 2024 and will feature chefs from My Loup, Down North Pizza, Cantina La Martina, and more.
