
Jackson Pollock’s “Number 7A (1948) sold for a staggering $181.2 million this year ( 2026) , at Christie’s New York. It completely shattered Pollock’s previous public auction record of $61.2 million, nearly tripling it. This historic sale instantly made Pollock a member of the elite $100 million auction club and cemented the painting as the fourth most expensive artwork ever sold at auction. The Method painted on the floor of his barn in Springs, Long Island, Pollock bypassed the traditional easel. He walked around the canvas, flinging, dripping, and pouring black enamel and oil paint accented with subtle touches of red. The bidding kicked off at $82 million and saw over 60 rapid-fire bids flying in from phone lines and collectors live in the room. Auctioneer Adrien Meyer dropped the hammer at a $157 million base bid. The winning bid went to a telephone buyer represented by Christie’s Global President, Alex Rotter. With mandatory auction house buyer’s fees added, the final payout totaled $181.2 million.
